Discovered Materials, founded by IIT-Madras alumni Advaith Sridhar and Akash Ramdas, has raised $9 million in seed funding.
Lightspeed India Partners led the round, joined by Y Combinator, Peak XV Partners and angels including Paul Graham, Gokul Rajaram and Anthropic’s Thariq Shihipar.
The company is building AI tools for semiconductor material discovery, a process that can require years of lab work and repeated testing. Its software studies scientific data, suggests candidate materials and helps researchers prioritize which options to test.
Discovered Materials says its AI created new thermal materials in three months that matched products taking the world’s largest chemical companies years to develop.
It plans to expand its team, laboratory capabilities and AI research agents, while its Material Discovery Bench evaluates agents on semiconductor problems.
The technology could support work on smartphones, electric vehicles, cloud servers and AI infrastructure, where heat and power efficiency are growing concerns.
