Canadians reject fully AI podcasts; Apple spotlights five Australian shows; Connect Media acquires RENTV
Podcasting institutions are investing in creator programming, editorial discovery and commercial reach, from Apple’s Australian selections and Connect Media’s RENTV acquisition to new sessions at NAB Show New York and AFSP’s renewed shows. But audience trust and discoverability remain constraints: Canadians strongly reject fully AI-generated podcasts, radio still leads in-car listening, and independent listings show missing metadata and directory coverage.

Canadians reject fully AI-generated podcasts as radio leads in-car listening
Only 4% of Canadians surveyed by Signal Hill Insights said they like fully AI-generated podcasts, while about 68% said they dislike them. Younger listeners were somewhat more accepting: 8% of 12-to-17-year-olds liked AI podcasts, though half still disliked them.
The nationally representative survey of 6,161 Canadians also found that podcasts remain marginal in cars. Just 2% listened to a podcast during the previous day, compared with 46% for AM/FM radio, 27% for music streaming and 11% for YouTube.
Signal Hill says streaming is narrowing radio’s lead when YouTube and music services are combined.
The findings reinforce the value of human voices in finished programming. AI may still have a role in behind-the-scenes production, but fully synthetic shows face a significant audience barrier.
For podcast publishers, in-car discovery is another challenge: podcasts currently trail radio, music services and YouTube in an important listening environment.
Apple Podcasts spotlights five Australian shows
Apple Podcasts has named five Australian shows and creator groups in its 2026 “Creators We Love” list: the ABC’s *All In The Mind*, *Mamamia Out Loud*, *Dyl & Friends*, *Shameless* and *Pop Culture Parenting*. The list is an editorial discovery feature, not a chart or audience ranking.
The announcement comes alongside changes that could broaden podcast distribution and monetization. Ausha has introduced video distribution to Apple Podcasts, while Libsyn is adding ad-location and sellable-inventory information to RSS feeds through a namespace extension.
The Golden Globes has also published 30 eligible shows for its next podcast award.
Apple’s endorsement gives selected shows a platform-owned route to visibility, although it does not establish audience or commercial gains.
The adjacent product changes point to growing demands on publishers to create video versions and provide more structured advertising information. Whether the spotlight produces measurable listening—and whether Libsyn’s ad metadata approach spreads—will be key signals to watch.
Connect Media acquires RENTV and its CRE podcast
Connect Media has acquired RENTV.com, *The REview* video tool, the *CRE Talk* podcast and RENTV conferences. Financial terms were not disclosed. Connect Media founder and CEO Daniel Ceniceros will lead the combined company.
The transaction adds roughly 50,000 commercial real estate readers and extends Connect Media’s reach from Texas to the West Coast.
The company plans to bring RENTV conferences to Seattle and San Diego and manage the October 29, 2026, Arizona State of the Market Conference in Scottsdale.
RENTV’s Steve Bloom will lead West Coast business development and conference production, while Allen Wolfsheimer joins Connect CRE as content director.
The deal brings a CRE podcast, video product, news site and events business under one B2B media operator. That creates opportunities to coordinate audience development, sponsorships and event promotion, although no specific changes to *CRE Talk* have been announced.
The next test will be whether the combined company expands the podcast and events business alongside its planned regional activity.
Independent podcast listings expose discovery gaps
Four Podnews directory pages published October 6 and 7 cover religious, comedy, games and hobbies programming: *LCM Sermons*, *DDS Faith Weekly Podcast*, *argaprapu* and *Payton Houser’s Podcast*.
The listings show fragmented distribution and uneven metadata. The shows use Sermon.net, Spotify for Creators or Podomatic, while Podnews flags missing directory listings for each.
Three have short descriptions, and three lack trailers. Two Spotify-hosted pages may support dynamic content insertion and identify Spotify for Creators as IAB v2 certified for statistics, but the pages do not establish that either show is actively using personalized advertising.
Together, the listings illustrate that hosting a feed does not guarantee broad discoverability. Smaller publishers still need accurate metadata, trailers and directory submissions.
Platform capabilities may support future monetization, but in these cases the immediate development is infrastructure—not confirmed advertising activity.
NAB Show New York adds podcast creator session
NAB Show New York will run October 20–22, 2026, with podcast programming alongside sessions on artificial intelligence, streaming, sports and broadcasting.
A Wednesday-morning session will feature creators from the 2026 NAB Marconi Podcast finalists: Hubbard Broadcasting’s *Purple Daily* and Cumulus Media’s *The Install with Greg Cosell*.
Moderated by Andy Slater, head of partnerships at Amazon’s ART19 hosting and monetization platform, the session will examine how the finalists found audiences and built success. Podcasting also appears in the Marconi Awards through the Best Radio Podcast category.
The broader event will include more than 200 exhibitors and four free educational theaters.
The session places podcast audience development and creator strategy within a major broadcast-industry event rather than treating podcasting as a separate niche. Its connection to ART19 also links the discussion to the hosting and monetization infrastructure publishers use.
The finalists’ experiences may offer practical lessons on discovery and growth in a crowded market.
AFSP launches a second season of research-informed podcasts
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention launched the second season of its podcast channel on October 7, 2026.
The channel, first introduced in December 2025, renews three shows—*Ask Dr. Jill*, *Strong Talk* and *Elevating Voices—with conversations combining mental-health research, personal experience, advocacy and listener questions.
The opening *Ask Dr. Jill* episode examines physician suicide with Jill Harkavy-Friedman and Corey Feist of the Dr. Lorna Breen Foundation. A *Strong Talk* episode scheduled for October 21 features author and graphic novelist Gemma Correll discussing anxiety and depression.
Planned topics include psychedelics, financial stress, LGBTQ+ suicide prevention, mental-health care in low-resource settings and cultural considerations across diverse communities.
AFSP is using a recurring podcast channel to translate research and expert perspectives into conversations it describes as actionable, while pairing them with lived experience and advocacy.
The three-format season also broadens the organization’s coverage across clinical, social and community-specific issues. Its longer-term test will be whether the shows sustain useful programming for listeners seeking research-informed guidance.
